Kinley, his family and United Voice rally outside Parliament House
It’s great news that the Department of Immigration has granted permanent residency to the Wangchuk family after the months of uncertainty and stress over their future the family have endured.
This is a huge win for Kinley Wangchuk and his family and everyone who has supported them.
United Voice congratulates the Wangchuk family on their tenacity and courage during this difficult time.
We congratulate the family for their decision to reach out to their union and the wider community and their courage in speaking out about their threatened deportation.
We also thank the 50,000 plus supporters who signed the petition to support Kinley and his family and reject discrimination in all its forms.
It shouldn’t take such a battle for a hard-working family to fight off the appalling discrimination shown towards Kinley for his hearing impairment. The community support for Kinley and his family shows how Australians are being better people than how we are represented in our current political environment and with these kinds of government decisions that can tear the lives of a hardworking family apart. We need to change the government to change the rules.
